Paweł Kapuła
Paweł Kapuła is a rapidly rising conductor of the younger generation, admired for the maturity of his interpretations across a broad symphonic repertoire and for his outstanding technique. Following his debut with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, when he stepped in for Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Kapuła was described as ‘one of the great hopes of Polish conducting’.In the 2026/27 season, Paweł Kapuła makes his debut at the BBC Proms, conducting the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra at London’s Royal Albert Hall. He appears with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Symphoniker Hamburg, Copenhagen Phil, Leipzig’s MDR-Sinfonieorchester, the Danish Chamber Orchestra, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz and the Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk.
He conducted the opening concert of 81 International Chopin Piano Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój with Wroclaw Philharmonic and laureates of Chopin Competition in Warsaw Piotr Alexewicz and Tianyao Lyu and the closing concert of the Wawel at Dusk Festival in Kraków. In March 2026, Kapuła appeared alongside Martha Argerich at Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle, conducting Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. In previous seasons he has worked with, among others, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Bremer Philharmoniker, Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Mainz, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, the Xi’an and Guiyang Symphony Orchestras in China, the Ulster Orchestra, Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstadt, Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra in Oslo, the Göteborg Opera Orchestra, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Meininger Hofkapelle, Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie Chemnitz, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, as well as the Romanian orchestras Filarmonica de Stat Sibiu and the ‘Transylvania’ State Philharmonic Orchestra of Cluj-Napoca.
Since 2021, Paweł Kapuła has been Principal Guest Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic in Bydgoszcz. In Poland, he has also appeared with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, Sinfonia Varsovia, the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, Capella Bydgostiensis, as well as the philharmonic orchestras of Gdańsk, Bydgoszcz, Kraków, Zielona Góra, Jelenia Góra and Rybnik.
His discography includes a complete recording project of Beethoven’s piano concertos with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the American pianist Reed Tetzloff, as well as an album with Sinfonia Varsovia. He has worked for many years with the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, conducting the ensemble in numerous recordings, chiefly of music by lesser-known Polish composers.
Paweł Kapuła studied with Professor Tadeusz Strugała at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków, graduating from the class of Professor Stanisław Krawczyński. He further developed his skills as assistant to Jacek Kaspszyk at the Warsaw Philharmonic and to Andrzej Boreyko at the Belgian National Orchestra. He is also a graduate of the Institute of Musicology at the Jagiellonian University.
