Maria Sakowska
A violinist and baroque violinist, soloist, chamber musician and manager, she is a violinist with the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic Orchestra in Szczecin.She is a laureate of the 2nd Prize at the International Bach Solo Competition in Poznań, 2nd Prize at the 19th K. Bacewicz International Chamber Music Competition in Łódź, and 2nd Prize at the 3rd W. Radowiczius International Competition in Vilnius. She won the Miami Music Festival competition (2019, Miami, USA), where, as part of the prize, she performed as a soloist with the MMF Symphony Orchestra.
In 2025, together with Krzysztof Grzybowski, Fil Liotis and Tansman Trio, she recorded the album “Tansman: Chamber Works for Clarinet” in collaboration with DUX.
In recent years, she has appeared as a soloist with ensembles including the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic Orchestra in Szczecin, The Berlin Orchestra, West Side Sinfonietta, Baltic Neopolis Orchestra and PRIMUZ Chamber Orchestra.
She is currently a member of Ensemble Esperanza and Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein. In 2017-2018, she was leader of the European Workshop for Contemporary Music, with which she performed regularly at the Warsaw Autumn Festival. She has also performed on major European stages as a violinist with the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Neue Philharmonie München and Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, and served as concertmaster with ensembles including the Lutoslavsky Youth Orchestra (2017), German-Nordic Youth Philharmonic (2017, Berlin, Germany) and PRISMA Orchestra (2018, Canada). During concert tours, she has worked with artists including Lisa Batiashvili, Wladimir Jurowski, Jonathan Nott and Lorenzo Viotti.
She has received scholarships from the Prime Minister of Poland, the Zwierciadło Foundation, DAAD Stiftung and Deutschlandstipendium.
She graduated from the Musikhochschule Lübeck, where she studied with Prof. Maria Egelhof, and from the G. and K. Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, where she studied with Prof. Łukasz Błaszczyk. She is currently also studying baroque violin at the F. Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz with Prof. Daniel Deuter and Dr Michał Marcinkowski.
Alongside developing her own musical career, she also supports other artists as the manager of Neuma Quartet, one of Poland’s most interesting string quartets.
